How To Claim Funding For Training Your Staff

The Workforce Development Fund (WDF) is funding from the Department of Health which is disbursed by Skills for Care.

This funding is a limited pot of money which funds qualifications, units and learning programmes to support the ongoing professional development of staff across adult social care in England. Employers can claim back a contribution towards the costs of employees completing health and social care QCF qualification(last year for QCF), RQF units, apprenticeships and specified learning programmes. Employers who directly incur costs for learning and development, such as course fees, can access the WDF to reclaim a contribution towards these costs.

Essex Care Training Partnership (a service provided by ECA) is currently the grant holder for the Workforce Development Fund across Essex, Southend and Thurrock.

What's in it for me?

The WDF contribution depends on the size of the qualification or learning programme. All qualifications and learning programmes are funded up to the value advertised on completion. A maximum of £1,200 can be claimed per learner per funding year. Funding years run from 1 April to 31 March.
Here are some examples of what could be claimed:Level 2 Diploma in Care: £690

                • Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care: £870

                • Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care: £1,050

                • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services, adult pathways: £1,200

                • Level 5 Certificate of Fundamental Knowledge in Commissioning for Wellbeing: £300

                • ‘Lead to Succeed’ learning programme: £350

IMPORTANT CHANGES FOR THIS YEAR 2018/19

  • Not all RQF qualifications will be funded by WDF.  Please check the current list of funded units on the Skills for Care website
  • There is no longer a 60 credit limit per learner, this is replaced by a financial limit of £1200 per learner per year
  • PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS IS THE LAST YEAR FOR CLAIMING QCF QUALIFICATIONS, SO YOU MUST ENSURE THAT ALL QCF CLAIMS ARE SUBMITTED BEFORE END OF MARCH 2019 (excludes Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care QCF)
  • The only evidence now being accepted by Skills for Care is the completed certificate.  Unit Assessment summary sheets are no longer valid

What People Say

We're a non profit making organisation and the funding allows us to invest in our staff to achieve qualifications. Without this funding we would struggle to provide training to our staff beyond the basic mandatory courses.

WDF funding has ensured we are able to offer staff the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and skills. In turn this ensures we can provide a truly person centred, high level of care and support of our clients
