  • CQC Smiling Matters: Oral health care in care homes

    The CQC new report shows what they found from a review on the state of oral health care in care homes across England.

    Between October 2018 and January 2019 the CQC dental inspectors attended 100 care homes inspections and spoke to many members of staff, people who use services and their families. 

    The report is what they found on those inspections, which includes examples of good, joined-up practice between care homes and dentists, although this was not common. This comes three years after the publication of NICE guidance on oral health in care homes.

    There are two, one hour long programmes called ‘Crisis in Care. Examining the failings of our country’s social care system’ commencing on Wednesday 29th May on BBC1 at 9.00 pm, this is the first programme of two scheduled.

  • Social care: forthcoming Green Paper

    We are all still waiting to hear when the Government might publish the long-awaited Green Paper on Social Care. So far the publication date has been missed five times since the original ‘summer 2017’ deadline. We intend to have a speaker at the ECA October conference to talk about what we might expect for Social Care reform, but in the meantime, the House of Commons Library has published a briefing paper which summarises the current provision:

  • CQC Interim report: Review of restraint, prolonged seclusion and segregation

    Today 21st May the CQC have published a report which gives the interim findings from their review of the use of restrictive interventions in places that provide care for people with mental health problems, a learning disability and/or autism. 

    The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock, asked CQC at the end of 2018 to look at the use of restrictive interventions. In this interim report the CQC focus on the treatment of 39 people who are cared for in segregation on a learning disability ward or a mental health ward for children and young people.

    • Last opportunity to submit claims for any completed QCF qualifications (excluding Level 5) for WDF funding.  
    • Important: Level 2 and 3 QCF’s will no longer be included  in next year’s WDF contract
    • Remember the final cut off date for receipt of your incoming claims into the ECTP office is Friday 17th May - this is to enable us to be able to process claims in a timely manner before the Skills for Care deadline
